Engineered, compacted dirt pads built to hold, from a small shop to an 18,000 square foot house pad.

Everything you build sits on the pad beneath it, and in East Texas, where the ground runs from loose sand to shifting clay, that pad is the difference between a slab that stays flat and one that cracks. Building a pad right is not just pushing up the dirt that is there. It is hauling in the right select fill and compacting it in lifts so it holds the load for the life of the building.

Gardner Excavating has built house and shop pads across East Texas for 35+ years, and it is some of our signature work. We recently finished an 18,000 square foot house pad using 200 loads of select fill, built and compacted to hold. Whether it is a big custom home or a small shop, we build the pad to last.

We work with your builder and your plans, get the pad to the right height and grade, and hand off solid, level ground the concrete crew can count on.

Pad work includes:
  • House and shop pads of any size
  • Select fill haul-in and placement
  • Compaction in lifts to hold the load
  • Pad height, grade and crown for drainage
  • Tie-in to driveway, septic and site
  • Coordination with your builder and plans
  • Barn, garage and outbuilding pads

Built With The Right Fill

A good pad starts with the right material. We haul in select fill, the kind of clean, compactable dirt a pad needs, rather than making do with whatever is on site. On sandy or wet ground, that is what separates a pad that holds from one that settles.

We place the fill in lifts and compact each one, building the pad up to the height and grade your plans call for. It is more work than pushing up native dirt, and it is exactly why our pads last.

Height, Grade & Drainage

A pad has to be high enough and shaped right so water drains away from the building, not toward it, which matters a great deal in a place that gets East Texas rain. We set the pad height and crown it so the ground sheds water and your slab stays dry.

We tie the pad into the driveway, the septic and the surrounding grade so the whole site works together.

Any Size, Built To Last

From a small shop or barn pad to a large custom-home pad, we build them all to the same standard. Bigger jobs mean more fill and more compaction, but the principle does not change: build it right so it holds.

Because we clear land and haul our own fill, we can take your project from raw ground to finished pad with one crew, which keeps it simple and keeps the cost fair.

Questions About House & Building Pads

How do you build a pad that will not settle?

By hauling in clean select fill and compacting it in lifts, not just pushing up the dirt that is there. On East Texas sand and clay, that is the whole game. It is more work up front and it is why our pads hold and your slab stays flat.

Can you build a big house pad?

Yes. We recently built an 18,000 square foot house pad with 200 loads of select fill. Big or small, we build them to the same standard, to hold.

Do you work with my builder?

Yes. We build to your plans and grade, coordinate on schedule, and hand off solid, level ground so your concrete crew and framer can get right to work.
