Private roads and driveways cut, shaped, crowned and rocked to shed water and last through East Texas rain.
A driveway or road is the first thing you use every day and the first thing to fail when it is built wrong. In East Texas, where the rain comes hard and the ground turns soft, a road that was not built right ruts, washboards and washes out. Built right, it sheds water and stands up to loaded trucks and years of use.
Gardner Excavating builds private roads and driveways across Houston County and East Texas, from a short drive to a long ranch road. We shape the subgrade, crown it to drain, install culverts where water crosses, and lay a proper rock base that holds.
After 35+ years of building roads on this ground, we know how to make one last.
- New gravel driveways and approaches
- Private and ranch roads
- Subgrade shaping and crowning
- Rock base haul-in and compaction
- Ditching and culvert installation
- Regrading and re-rocking tired roads
- Clean county-road approaches
Built From The Base Up
A road is a layered thing, not just gravel on dirt. We shape a stable subgrade that sheds water, crown it down the center so rain runs to the ditches, and lay and compact a rock base sized for the loads you will actually put on it.
Skip the base and the crown and a road turns to soup the first wet season. We build it right so it holds.
Drainage & Culverts
Water is what tears a road up. We shape ditches to carry it away and set culverts wherever the road crosses a draw or a low spot, sized for the flow so a gully-washer runs under the road instead of over it.
At the county-road approach we build a clean, solid transition so you are not dragging mud onto the pavement or bottoming out coming in.
Drives To Ranch Roads
From a home driveway to a long road back to a hunting cabin or across a ranch, we build them all. Longer roads live and die on drainage and base, and we build both to stand up to East Texas weather.
Because we haul our own rock and run our own iron, we build roads efficiently and price them fair.
Questions About Roads & Driveways
Why does my driveway wash out or washboard?
Almost always drainage and base. If water has nowhere to go, or the road was built on soft ground without a crown and proper rock, it ruts and washboards. We fix the root cause and rebuild it to shed water and hold.
Do I need a culvert?
Often, yes, anywhere the road crosses a ditch or draw. A right-sized culvert keeps the water moving under the road so it does not wash out. We will tell you what your place needs.
Can you build a long road back to my property?
Yes. We build long private and ranch roads through East Texas ground, with the drainage and rock base to hold up year-round.
